Innovate, Motivate, Integrate

Every corporate entity must evolve, revolve or die; this is the central premise behind innovation (the process of translating an abstraction into a product or service that creates value). This value must be perceived from the customer’s lens hence innovation involves a deliberate experimentation and application of information and ideas to satisfy the insatiable needs of the customers.

Despite ubiquitous nature of “silos” or hierarchical structures, Projectized Organizational Structure remains a veritable platform to express innovation. To fully optimize this platform, there is a dire need to integrate (proper coordination of elements or parts of projects) and motivate (leverage human resources by providing justification for implementing the project).

Contemporarily, the Adaptive Development lifecycle is the go-to platform for software innovation but it is filled with complexities (barrier to innovation). Complexity within projects is a result of the system behavior (interdependence of components), human behavior (interplay between diverse group), and ambiguity (uncertainty of emerging issues and lack of understanding or confusion) at work in the organization or its environment.

This paper will attempt to explore cases of integration and motivation as a panacea to project complexity. It will further analyze the twofold role of the project manager regarding integration; the alignment of project objective and result to strategic objective and the guidance of the project team to work together to focus on what is really essential at the project level.

Though integration of processes, knowledge, and people are essential to resolving project complexity, it is the human dimension to project complexity that poses a greater challenge. Hence, this paper will also attempt to demystify cases of motivation regarding stakeholders and project management team. It will specifically explore the leadership role of the project manager regarding motivation.

In a competitive business environment, innovation is vital to customer loyalty but it requires a project platform to breed. Complexities in projects are poisonous to innovation hence integration and motivation are essential antidote to complexities. In conclusion, the mix of innovation, motivation and integration are vital to corporate survival and ultimate success.
