Project Planner/Scheduler Position

I am really tired of listening job seekers complain about lack of jobs in Nigeria – the reality is that there are more jobs in Nigeria compared to most countries I have been privileged to travel to. I realized far back in 2002 during my job search days that jobs are scarce to those that lack the skills or capacity for the jobs available. There is also the unwillingness in the part of job seekers to acquire skills either through unpaid/paid internship or training. The part that pains me the most is that job seekers have an entitled attitude that they deserve jobs that they are not even suited for.

Recently, I realized that even those that have the skills couldn’t recognize the jobs that suit their skills: I saw the above-subject vacancy on Tuesday Guardian on 24th of December 2013 and sent it to a PMtutor Graduate with a PMP certification. He replied me by saying the vacancy was not for him.

Why is it not for you?

Please see reasons he gave below:

  1. It is a construction company – I am looking for an Project Management service company,
  2. I do not know about CPM schedule activities and EVM analysis
  3. I am a Mechanical Engineer and they are looking for Civil Engineer or Architects
  4. I do not know how to use Primavera P6 not talk of Advance Primavera

Please, see content of Ad below and see my reply below it in Bolded Italics:

Company Profile

ARBICO was founded in 1958 and quoted in the Nigeria Stock Exchange since 1978. It is a full service building and civil engineering contracting company. The company is involved in the construction of a broad spectrum of projects for Government, Multinational Company, Industry Groups as well as High Networth Individuals.

If you do a search on the company, you will realize that they have Project Management in their portfolio in fact majority of what they do is Project Management, which will give you the needed experience, you are craving for.

Brief Job Profile

Develop, update, review and analyze CPM schedule activities. Perform schedule delay impact analysis, productivity studies, and integrate project budget and schedule to support EVM analysis and reporting. Provide necessary information to support claims and change order requests.

CPM means Critical Path Method and EVM means Earned Value Management.

As a PMP certified, there is no way you could have passed the exam without knowing these two subjects.

Education Level

First degree in Civil Engineer, Architecture, Building Construction or equivalent experience Membership of Accredited Professional Bodies desirable.

You forgot the third option, which is Accredited Professional Body. You are a Project Management Professional (PMP) hence you are qualified to apply.

Experience Level

Experience at advanced level in Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 is essential. Must be a team player but also be able to work on own initiative with minimum supervision.

Since you have an idea on Microsoft Project, you can easily learn Primavera P6 from PMtutor here before you are called for an interview.

Another better alternative is to attend our workshop on Scheduling Professional Tools, which gives you huge discount to learn 3 software tools – Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 and SAP Project Systems. Attending the aforementioned workshop will ground you enough to attend the interview with flying colors. To know more about this workshop, click Scheduler Tools here

This vacancy is still open. Candidates whose profile match the above should send their CVs as an attachment to recruitment@arbicong.com and quote the job title as the subject of the email.
