This Is For Smart People

Alim0669

I had a 4-hours talk this weekend @ Global Harvest Church, Ibadan and this particular episode of my entrepreneurial trail opened my eyes to a different dimension of entrepreneurship. After the residence pastors enumerated their challenges to me concerning their youths, I knew it was not just a local challenge but an African challenge that must be tackled head-on.

Most of the young men and youths of the church do not have any job or business and they receive constant benevolence and money from the CARE unit of the church. The pastors realized these youths needed to start something of their own instead of relying on hand-outs from the church. So, I was sought out as a resource person to proffer a solution. I immediately knew what the youths lacked; insight!

Alim0656 300x225Sight is a function of the mind; if you cannot see, you cannot sow your energy into any venture.  It is very difficult to convince people to place their energy into what they cannot see. Energy can be regarded as resources or personal input. In order to raise their sight, they needed a mind-renewal concerning entrepreneurship. The only reason why most people study over-night to pass exams in the university is because of what they see.

I was privy to watch CNN Heroes this weekend and I could pull out a common thread that existed amongst the Heroes that ventured into Africa. They put their efforts in solving illiteracy in the down trodden part of Africa like Malawi, Senegal and Ethiopia. Personal development is a prerequisite to entrepreneurial success; entrepreneurial success is the key to enterprise development; enterprise development is the key to building an impoverished nation or maintaining a developed nation.

The whole argument about the auto bail-out in the United States is premised on the about 3 million people that may lose their jobs as a result of the auto companies going under. The whole Mumbai saga is premised on terrorism; terrorism breeds in a poverty-stricken environment; why would someone who is psychologically-balanced consciously commit suicide? The whole global recession is based on the kwashiorkor spot market.

Alim0666 300x225If everything starts from personal development, what can we do encourage our youths to develop their minds so they can see? If they can see, they will in turn apply their energies according. One of the personal development habits, I recommend is reading books of positive influence. Books increases your awareness level and allows you make informed decisions. If you are not used to reading books, you can start today with an easier form.

I started reading novels then I moved to motivational books and now I read journals because they are research-based. I gave myself target of one book per month when I started reading then I moved to one book per week but now I ensure I read 5 journals in a week on a particular interest of mine. If you develop yourself, challenges become very easy to tackle.

This topic is in three folds – this is just an intro. In the next write-up, I will be reviewing Steve Pavlina’s new book entitled; “Personal Development for Smart People”. I received the book free-of-charge from the publishers and I was supposed to do an indebt analysis of the book on this blog to pay for the free copy. I would advise you not to miss this write-up; there are so many stuffs to learn.

However, there are some books I need to read before the end of the month. I may not be travelling out of the country before the end of this year so I need Nigerians who are coming home from abroad this Christmas to help me procure some of these books:

1.      Call Me Ted

2.      Team of Rivals

Please, you may contact me by clicking HERE if you are interested in helping me out. Thanx.
