PMP exam was accredited in 1984 and the initial exam was 40 questions in each of the 6 knowledge areas (Scope, Cost, Time, Quality, HR and Communication) with at least 70% correct in each to pass. The organization that administers the exam – Project Management Institute (PMI) – was founded in in October 1969 at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a non-profit organization focused on the field of project management. The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guide was first published in 1987 to include the Risk and Procurement knowledge Areas to the already 6 knowledge areas making it a total of 8. It has since transformed to a total of 10 Knowledge Areas till date.
