“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” – Chanel
There is really nothing that scares us more like the fear of the future; the fact that we cannot be absolutely certain of the future. Even when we get the assurance from the Holy book(s) that everything will be ok, we still don’t believe it (at least not literarily). Anybody that has personal experienced the “rag-to-riches” story has one predominant phobia – never to experience the rag phase again. So, we literarily sell our soul to the one that appears to fuel the riches.
Most times when I am going through a dry phase in my business, the temptation to cut corners is very high but when I realize that my future is determined by the processes I engage in today, it is always easy to beat the temptation. The dry phase is as important as the wet phase of my life – my life is shaped by these phases and I become an authentic “me” when I graduate from the seemingly difficult periods. I am learning everyday and one thing that keeps ringing true is that I cannot be anybody but me so I avoid alliances as much as possible to boost my self esteem.
Whenever, I derive my self esteem from anything, anybody or any group, I realize that I am killing my authentic self which is vital to contributing to the whole. If I feel a sense of pride in the cluster of people because I drive a MPV Mazda; I do consulting work with BAT or belong to a certain “in-thing” fraternity, then I am certainly loosing who I have been called to be – the best of “me”. Most of us are drawn to the crutches of dependency; to feel significant by association – I know the Senate President. So? He is a human being like you; what stops you from becoming the President?
In the book of Isaiah, Chapter 7:14, the Lord may have given us a template – in order to avoid unnecessary worry or fear, a sign was given to King Ahaz: A child shall be born to a virgin! And she shall call him Immanuel (meaning God with us). By the time the child is matured, all the fear you have shall be dead and long gone. When your productivity (child) is not derived from the touch of a man (political affiliation, association, work place, etc), you are qualified as a virgin. The productivity that stems from your authentic self when matured will destroy all the fear that you may nurture.
In order to live peacefully without fear, you should not be touched by any man to produce; this is when you can say like David said; “ the Lord who saved me from the claws of the Lions and Bears, shall save me from this Phillistine”- “the Lord who got me through the dry season, would always be with me”. The Virgin Birth is the only solution to the gnawing fear of the future. You can beat your chest that without XYZ Company, you will fulfill your destiny and be all that God has called you to be. Have a lovely week!
“And Israel will learn that the Lord does not depend on weapons to fulfill his plans – he works without regards to human means! He will give you to us!” – 1st Samuel 17: 47

@Dippo: I hear, Sir!
“Having a mentor and being true to yourself are mutually exclusive – the reason you choose the mentor you chose, is so you can be true to yourself…my writing is more concerned about boosting your self esteem through various associations (your mentor could be the association)”
Hmm! a bit paradoxical…lol
No “Thanx for the comment” for me?
@ Royal Prince
In the Art of War by Sun Tzu, if a troop fails to understand the General’s command the first time, it is the fault of the General but if the second time, it means there is a problem with the team lead…I guess if you don’t understand it this time then it will be the fault of the comment box (lol)

Nice one Dipo! I agree with your position of being true to one’s self and all of that, but i also don’t think it is entirely out of place to have mentors (and role models) whose impact directly or indirectly contributed to our successes in life.
Your interpretation of the virgin birth is quite out of the box.
great words dipo, may God help us all to remain true in the face of challenges.

Great read as usual. We all came here like an empty book. It is we that chooses what we write in such books. The good thing is when we fail, it is recorded. When we learn from that failure, we can tear the page and write the success we got from that failure.
Happy new month
