PROFILE OF FELA DUROTOYE
Mr. Fela Durotoye is the Managing Consultant of V.I.P Consulting Limited. He is a
Computer Scientist and an Economist who has acquired financial and management
consulting experience with VENTURES & TRUSTS LIMITED, the sole investment
consultants in Nigeria to the European Investment Bank. As a venture capital and project
finance analyst, he was involved in the set up and management of several venture capital
projects including Academy Press Business Forms Limited and Best Oils Limited.
Fela has a Masters degree in Business Administration from “Great Ife”, the
prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, during which he understudied the
Management of Change in Complex Organisations. He brought his experience to bear in
the area of Business Process Re-engineering for some major TQM implementation
projects in PHILLIPS CONSULTING where he excelled to head the Customer Service
Group.

As Head of the Customer Service Group, Fela designed and facilitated several
customer service and personal mastery training programmes and retreats. Based on his
unconventional approach to facilitating, Fela Durotoye has become a “household” name
in Diamondbank, Chartered Bank, NAL Bank, Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria where
he has managed streams of Customer Service Management training programmes and
retreat on behalf of Phillips Consulting for Functional Managers. Fela co-led the
Diagnostic Review Team on the Culture Change programme in First Bank Nigeria plc.
He later led the Diagnostic Review Team on the on-going Bank Transformation
programme in Inland Bank plc during which he was also given the sole responsibility of
preparing the Organisation Diagnostic Report on Inland Bank.

Mr. Durotoye was responsible for the programme design and logistic management
for the first-ever series of Management Retreats facilitated by Phillips Consulting for the
Central Bank of Nigeria.

In February 2001, Fela was sought after by the ECOWAS Secretariat to facilitate a 5
year Visioning & Strategy Session. Based on the success of this retreat, he was invited to
Lome, Togo to facilitate a retreat for a multilateral organisation with an annual turnover
of over US $100 million. His exceptional facilitation style was attested to in September
2002, when the Integrated Programmes Sector of ECOWAS invited him to facilitate their
annual retreat programme. In October 2002, Fela facilitated strategic retreats for the
ECOWAS Administration Directorate and in November 2002, the ECOWAS Bank for
Investment and Development.

Renowned for his out-of-the-box thinking, Mr. Durotoye recently established
Wisdom & I as a platform for motivating business leaders to see beyond their present
boundaries and limitations into areas never ventured before. In the course of his journey
to developing business managers to enjoy unprecedented levels of performance
improvements, Fela developed the concept of Performance Optimisation presently
causing excitement in management circles. Fela also travels from university to university,
facilitating the Future Leaders seminar motivating students to a successful future. He
presently mentors over 75 protégés personally through counseling.

In November 2001, Fela was invited and appointed a MENTOR on the Aspiring &
Emerging Entrepreneurs programmes by the prestigious FATE FOUNDATION.
Having recently concluded an M.Phil degree programme, Mr. Fela Durotoye is

SHORT BIO OF FELA DUROTOYE
Wednesday the 12th of May 1971 was a particularly remarkable day for Sisi Addy and
Bros Toks as they welcomed the newest member of their family in Ibadan South West
Nigeria. They named their third child and second son Oluwafeolami meaning (God has
enlarged my territory).
Together with his brother Pade and sister Jibike, the family moved to the university
town of Ile-Ife also in South West Nigeria in 1972 where Fela grew into one of the
liveliest kids on the campus staff quarters.
Ile-Ife would come to hold a special place in Fela’s life as he has gone through all his
formal education there. First at the Staff Children’s School (1974-1981) where he was a
member of the Boys Scout, School Band and played the lead role in “Tragedy of
Meggini” and then on to Moremi High School (1981-1986) during which time he was
also the lead singer and keyboardist of the youth band , The Midwaves who regularly
featured on TV.

Fela moved onto the University for his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science &
Economics (1986-1991). In the course of his MBA (1995-1997) Fela started The Pool
Bar, which was the number one Hang-Out on the campus. Interestingly, during this
period also he had a 4-day one-on-one encounter with GOD in April 1997. It was during
this experience that Fela became born again and life took on a whole new meaning.
Back from his MBA and spurred on by his new found relationship with Jesus, Fela
moved on from Ventures & Trusts to Phillips Consulting in 1998. He was there till 2000

OAU, Ife.

Fela founded V.I.P Consulting in 2001 and he is firmly on the way to grow it into the
‘most sought after consulting firm in Nigeria”. In a goodwill message sent to Fela
Durotoye in April 2005, the Honourable Minister of Information and National
Orientation, Chief Chukwu-emeka Chikelu, described Fela as “an ICON to our
generation.”

In recognition of his contributions to the field of Human Resource Consulting, Fela
was recently honoured with the “Excellence in Human Resource Consulting Award” by
NIPRO, a body of Nigerian Professionals based in the United Kingdom and the United
States of America, at their global convention in Miami Florida in December 2004. Other
award recipients include the world renowned IT expert, Phillip Emegwali and
management guru Professor Pat Utomi.

Fela has also just recently been asked to preside over the Motivational Speakers
Network of Nigeria. As a nation builder, his contribution to our nations’ economy is still
being quantified. As far as Fela is concerned, “the infusion of a national entrepreneurial
spirit is critical for any nation’s economic development”.
In line with his belief, his radio program called “Business Clinic with Fela Durotoye” on
Eko FM 89.75 aims to inspire the nation’s potential entrepreneurs to “Dream Big, Start
Small and Grow Fast”. Fela Durotoye is also the Nigerian country representative of the
Nigerian Trade and Investment Center (NTIC), a UK based organization facilitating
foreign direct investment into Africa and the Caribbean Pacific Islands.

Fela Durotoye’s accomplishments have regularly commanded the frequent attention
of the media and he has often been profiled and interviewed by This Day, The Guardian,
Financial Standard, Punch, Business Day and Vanguard as well as the Nigerian
