WAFITEL EXHIBITION IN LAGOS
As the world of telecoms continues to evolve, it seems the human mind would not rest until convenience becomes the main stream. Another 3-day exhibition titled WAFITEL ended last week with more creative solutions by the participants of the events for the Nigerian Individuals and Businesses alike. Â
Each stands exhibited value solutions as the event climaxed on the 22nd of June but my interest was in sync with any solution that can better the lot of the ordinary Nigerian. So I was not surprised when Redford Technologies had my full attention 5 days in a meeting designed to acquaint my company with solutions that can improve customer’s experience. Of all the axioms and technobable presented by these 2 young gentle men, the sentence that made real sense to me was VOIP-the way go.
Â
What is VOIP? The internet has revolved the social-economic fabric of the world bringing with it various possibilities and included, is the convergence of voice in a data network; VOIP is an acronym for Voice over Internet Protocol. As the simple telephony system goes; voice is modulated at callers end and demodulated at the receivers end but passing it over the internet protocol, the modulated digits are “packetized†and based on preferred protocol (H323, SIP or MGCP), it is routed to the receiver and vice versa.
Then the question lingers; why is it the way to go? Well, the cost benefit is huge and the perceived quality is pin-dropped; this generally means that the cost burdened on the subscriber will the lessened and more talk is accomplished which invariable leads to a chain reaction of economic boom and social development. This is the utopia of a forward-thinking Nigerian and we have seen this happen with the introduction of GSM in Nigeria. Â
