STILL JUDGING THE BOOK’S COVER?

I got a mail today that probably threw me off my seat. I am sure you will be wondering what I am up to but don’t sweat it, the story will unfold itself. I am amazed at what people perceive as a miracle; from the lens of these people, miracles are things, process, functions, etc that they are not used to but the same people despise the everyday miracle that God grants them. Gratefulness to God is always a perceived action that God does on our behalf. One man would shout over the roof top, give testimony in church and celebrate with joy when he gets a US visa; the same man will despise the fact that he can eat, sleep, walk and see. I believe miracles are what we perceive as being difficult to accomplish but once the very thing becomes a common place, it is no longer regarded as a miracle. Well, I rather not over-flog the issue but allow you to enjoy this mail unedited; it is written by a lady with a grateful heart.

Dear Dipo,

Thanks for this. I do appreciate what you have done (even merely forwarding the CV is a great thing, even if nothing comes out of it). I have just visited your site and it occurred to me you are probably a Christian!! (Not in today’s parlance though, too many proclaim they are Christians and they do precisely what the WORD is against.)

Just to share with you what happened to me yesterday, you may use is as material for your site if it’s okay.

There’s a new policy in my office which says we have to resume at 7.30 am as opposed to 8.00 am we were used to. We’ve been adjusting but it’s not been easy getting to the office at 7.30 am. So a deadline was given that you come in late as from 1st of June, you may be in trouble!!. Anyway I was driving as usual from my house in Gbagada to VI through the 3rd Mainland bridge when I noticed that my car was over heating , the temperature had reached the highest on the gauge, I quickly maneuvered and parked by the side of the road to wait for it to cool down & put water etc. (I later discovered the cooling fan weren’t working) While I was doing this I noticed 2 fiercely looking area boys walking around me (not doing anything, probably waiting for the right time to attack me) and trust Lagosians, they were all driving by fast, no one stopped!!! I quickly locked up my car and moved down the road further away from where the car was parked and started praying. Not long after that a dreadlock wearing young chap driving a Benz stopped and I knew he is not someone I know from Adam. He asked what was wrong and fixed it, waited for me to drive away and drove behind me for a while to be sure that I was okay and when I looked in the mirror, he had driven away (I wanted to say thank you to him and maybe ask him what his name was and if he had his card on him, to exchange business card etc) but I didn’t see him again.    In other words, God saw me in my difficulty and provided a way of escape to me though a total stranger whom under normal circumstances I would never have given a ride to! That’s God in action for you.

Have a blessed day today, tomorrow and always.

  1. Hi Sonny,

Well said but you must understand that this prejudice is inherent in all of us and the more we search within us the faults that only Jesus can heal the better.

I will recommend this film “CRASH” to further illustrate my point……

  2. After reading this story , I only wished one thing that my wife would have been this Lady… I guess you would be wondering why? . Anyway the reason is that she hates men with dreadlock, her perception of them is that they are totally irresponsible and uncultured . That, sad enough is her thinking despite her education and background.

The mere fact that the woman in the story also shared the same feeling shows the kind of hypocritical society we live in, but thank God , she has witnessed something that will change her opinion about people . Reminds me of the case of Peter in the Bible and unclean things.
Thanks Dipo for bringing this kind of stories , it should be told on the pulpit of our churches.
