Primavera P6 (P6) leads Microsoft Project (MSP) in market penetration by 58% share in the Middle East and 64% share in the United States according to (Vukomanović et al, 2012). In making an investment or career decision, it is important to understand the fundamental difference between the two popular Project Management Software (PMS) and the pivotal role they contribute in delivering successful projects. They differ basically in the way they store and restore data; P6 is database driven while MSP is a file-based software.
This fundamental difference makes P6 a superior option for enterprise grade solution because database software can operate faster than a file-based software when the quantum of data is more. However, a file-based software is very flexible and easy to operate – it is well suited for individual project managers.
