6Sigma Interview: Solomon Grande

Every sustained successful change must be altered from the root cause of the identified problem. The root cause of every problem that a corporate entity faces, can be traced to their everyday process in achieving their varying objectives – whether hiring of staffs, creating reports, producing goods or delivering services to their customers. This is why a corporate strategy is needed to standardize all processes. Lean Six Sigma is a proven management strategy for identifying performance of a process – it aids managers to illuminate hidden factory and eliminate non-value added steps in all process by using a pre-defined metrics and method. I had a talk with Solomon who just got certified in the Black Belt designation of the Lean Six Sigma  about his vision and dreams of integrating this credentials to his portfolio.

Solomon Olanrewaju AREMU

What is your present occupation?

Am a senior project manager in Alcatel-Lucent Nigeria with specialty in post-sales technical support services to our customers; telecom service providers

What motivated you towards Lean Six Sigma?

As a PM managing projects across countries, there is always business pressure to improve on agreed KPIs with customers at minimal cost. I believe LSS will be a great help for me to achieve higher customer satisfaction and better project margins. Also, there is need to make myself relevant in today’s business world where resources are becoming scarcer and positive results have to be achieved by organizations in order to satisfy all stakeholders.

Why were you interested in Lean Six Sigma as opposed to Six Sigma?

LSS deals with waste reduction/removal which improves productivity and profitability while SS is all about process improvement only.

What made you choose IASSC as opposed to ASQ?

IASSC is more open and applicable to all organizations unlike ASQ that is tailored to manufacturing.

Which books did you buy to make you pass at the 85th percentile?

Materials provided by my trainer PM Tutor and i also got some materials online

Was the exam in terms of difficult level?

The exam was thorough as it tests deep understanding of LSS as it relates to real life scenarios.

How was the exam arrangement @ PMtutor?

The exam arrangement was very good and without stress. From training sessions to exam – it has been

Fantastic

What do you think about your coach, Dipo?

Dipo has tremendous knowledge and authority in LSS. His style of coaching and training makes learning easy. He came across very well and I recommend him to anyone or organization in need of project management trainings

What is your future plan and what do you intend to with your certification?

Am already using the skills learned in my projects and I expect to have better customer feedback this year as well as improved profitability on my projects.

Next step is to keep learning and seeking for opportunities to use acquired skills in progressing my career within or outside my present organization.
