The Opportunity Called Friendship

In 2010, I was watching the Oscars a week later than usual – it was glamorous and fun as usual but a statement made by one of the Oscar recipient struck me – the winner of the best supporting actress in the female category, Monique, in her superb role in the movie; “Precious based on the novel Push by Saphire”. She said; “I would like to thank Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey; because you touched it, the whole world saw it”. This last statement just refused to leave me alone and my mind immediately went to President Obama, Dr. Phil and Robert Kiyosaki – their lives tipped, partially because of their connection with Oprah Winfrey.

friendship

You would realize that I embolden the word “partially” because the spiritual protocol for success is as follows using 1st Corinthians 3: 6 – “Paul plants, Apollo waters and God gives the increase”. Emphasis is mostly placed on Paul planting (personal development) and God increasing (spiritual exercises e.g. prayer, fasting, meditating, etc) but Apollo watering (friendship) is deemphasized. There are so many talented and skilled individuals praying to God for increase without understanding the protocol involved. There must be a human contact (whom I regard as your friendship Connection – it could be a person, group of persons or organization) before God can make the increase.

This is one of the prerequisite for success as related by Jesus – if two or three shall agree as touching anything on this earth, it shall be done by my father in heaven. Jesus did not say anything about prayer but about agreement. It is only your true friends that can truly agree with you. The problem most people have is not recognizing the Apollo (the grace connector{s}) in their lives – the person(s) you must leverage to get to your dream. It is not everybody that appears on Oprah Winfrey show that has become popular and it is not every film that Oprah has been involved in that has been tremendously successful. This shows you that there is a connection deeper than the physical.

I will call your true friend – the grace connector. Most people severe relationships with their grace connectors due to pride, arrogance, misunderstanding and the list go on. This severance puts them at a struggling phase of their lives and they keep wondering why things don’t seem to work. Nurturing and maintaining relationship with your grace connector is vital to your success. For most people who are serious about their lives, I would recommend a book for your reading titled; “The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell. In this book, the author pin points different elements that causes certain products to tip (tip in this case, means grow exponentially or virally). The book points to some certain people called the connector and how vital they can be to the success.

The Connector mentioned in the aforementioned book is similar to the Grace Connector except the Grace Connector is subjective to individual personality. Someone’s Grace Connector may not be another’s. It is also easy not to recognize your Grace Connector when it stares directly in your face except God opens your eyes to the person or the organization. It may just be that person you have been taking for granted or the organization you have been complaining about. All in all, it is important to note that it is not good for man to be alone; a human connection is needed for increase to take place.

Have a wonderful week!
